The trail passes by a unique chain of limestone castles built in 13th – 14th centuries. Their name comes from the fact that the strongholds were erected on inaccessible rocks, similarly to real eagles nests. The red-marked hiking trail (163,9 km) goes through the area of Silesia and Lesser Poland. The trail offers a wealth of well-developed tourist facilities and attractions. The comprehensive range of accommodation and catering facilities allow tourists to plan even longer stay. The trail is marked uniformly over the entire length. To walk round this route and see all the major attractions, one needs about 6 or 7 days. A kind of a buckle fastening the trail are the Wawel Royal Castle and the Jasna Góra Monastery.
